Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 19, 2026
MoodSwings is a couples cycle-tracking app made by Worth A Try Co. This policy explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and what control you have over it.
We take your privacy seriously because period, mood, and reproductive-health data is some of the most personal information you can share with an app. So we wrote this policy the way we'd want one written for us.
A quick, important note before we get into the legal stuff
MoodSwings helps you understand your cycle — your period dates, your moods, your patterns over time. We hope it makes you feel more in tune with your body.
But it's a tracking app, not a medical device. Our cycle predictions are estimates based on the data you log — they're great for planning, less great for things that need certainty. So:
- If you're trying to avoid (or achieve) pregnancy, treat our fertile-window predictions as a helpful signal, not a guarantee — pair them with another method or talk to your doctor.
- For any health concern, please see a clinician. Your doctor knows you in a way an app never can.
- For emergencies, call your local emergency number (911 in the US, 112 in the EU, 999 in the UK). Don't use the App.
That's the most important thing on this page. The rest is the detail.
1. What we collect
Things you tell us
- Account info. A display name. An email and profile photo if you sign in with Apple or Google. (Anonymous accounts skip all of this.)
- Cycle and wellness data. Period start/end dates, cycle length, symptoms, mood entries, energy, sleep, sex drive, sexual activity, cravings, hydration, stress, discharge, basal body temperature, pain location, and any free-text notes you write.
- Your goal. What you're using MoodSwings for (tracking your period, trying to conceive, staying protected, managing symptoms, sharing with your partner, or just understanding your cycle).
- Partner pairing. If you generate or redeem a 6-character invite code, we record the link between your account and your partner's.
Things we collect automatically
- Device basics. Device model, OS version, app version, language, timezone, and crash logs — the standard stuff every app needs to run.
- Usage events. Which screens you visit, which buttons you tap, whether you finished onboarding, whether you started a trial. These are pseudonymous and aren't joined with your name or email.
- Push token. A token Apple issues so notifications can reach your device.
- Install attribution. How you found us — for example, "App Store search."
Things we get from other companies
- Apple and Google. When you sign in with Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive a stable identifier and, with your permission, your name and email.
- Apple App Store and RevenueCat. Subscription status and trial dates. We never see your card number — Apple handles billing.
2. How we use it
- To run the App: store your data, sync across your devices, draw your calendar.
- To make predictions: estimate your next period, fertile window, PMS week, and pregnancy-chance level from what you've logged.
- To generate AI advice: send a small amount of cycle context (current phase, today's mood, your goal, recent cycle length) to Google's Gemini model via Firebase AI to produce one short note for you or your partner.
- To send notifications you opted into (period reminders, daily check-ins, partner updates).
- To enable partner sharing (only when you've explicitly paired).
- To manage your subscription and trial.
- To diagnose crashes, prevent abuse, and improve the App.
- To meet legal obligations (e.g. tax records).
Things we don't do:
- We don't sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to insurers, not to employers, not to data brokers. Not ever.
- We don't use your cycle, mood, or notes to train AI models. The AI calls we make to Google's Gemini are inference-only.
- We don't share your data with law enforcement unless we're legally compelled to. See Section 10.
3. Third-party services we use
To run the App, we use a small set of trusted providers, each governed by their own privacy policy:
| Provider | What it does for MoodSwings |
|---|---|
| Firebase (Google) | Database (Firestore), authentication, cloud functions, push notifications, crash reports, analytics, remote config, storage, and AI (Gemini 2.5 Flash) |
| RevenueCat | Subscription entitlement tracking |
| Mixpanel | Pseudonymous product analytics — we don't send your name, email, or health content |
| AppsFlyer | Install attribution — referral source only, no health data |
| Branch.io | Deep links for partner invites |
| Apple | App Store payments and Sign in with Apple |
| Google Sign-In |
We don't use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites. You won't see an ATT prompt.
4. Partner sharing — exactly what gets shared
MoodSwings is built for couples, but partner sharing is opt-in. You decide when (and whether) to pair, and you can unpair at any time. Here's what happens when you do pair:
Your partner sees:
- Your current cycle phase
- Your predicted next period date
- Today's mood (if you've logged one)
- Your recent mood history (limited window)
- One short AI-generated note about how to support you today
Your partner does not see:
- Your free-text notes
- Your basal body temperature
- Your sexual activity logs
- Your discharge details
- Anything you mark as private
You're in control:
- Unpair anytime from Settings. Your partner's access ends immediately and their app shows "partner disconnected."
- If your partner deletes their account, the pairing is severed and you see "partner disconnected."
- We never share your data with anyone else without your explicit action.
A word of advice: sharing reproductive-health data with another person — even someone you trust deeply — is a meaningful decision. We'd suggest only pairing with someone you'd discuss this information with in person.
5. Where your data lives and how long we keep it
- Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore in the United States. Security rules make sure only you (and a partner you've explicitly paired with, for the limited fields above) can read your records.
- Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (Google Cloud's default encryption).
- We keep your data as long as your account exists. When you delete your account from Settings → Delete Account, we wipe your records within 30 days. Cloud backups age out on Google's standard rotation (up to 90 days).
- Pseudonymous analytics in Mixpanel and AppsFlyer follow those vendors' standard retention windows (typically 1–5 years).
No system is perfectly secure. We apply industry-standard safeguards, but we can't guarantee absolute security, and you use the App at your own risk.
6. Your rights
Wherever you live, you have rights over your data. MoodSwings honors them globally:
- Access. Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correction. Fix anything inaccurate. Most fields you can edit directly in the App.
- Deletion. Delete your account and data via Settings → Delete Account, or email us.
- Portability. Get your data in a portable format. Heads up: a self-serve export is on the roadmap and not in v1.0 — until then, email us and we'll send your data manually within 30 days.
- Objection / restriction. Ask us to stop or limit certain processing.
- Withdraw consent. Pull back any consent you previously gave (partner sharing, push notifications, etc.).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
If you're in the EU, UK, or EEA (GDPR)
We process your data on the legal bases of (a) contract — to deliver the App you signed up for; (b) consent — for partner sharing and optional push notifications; (c) legitimate interest — for crash reporting and pseudonymous analytics; and (d) legal obligation — for tax and compliance records. The data controller is Worth A Try Co.
If you're in California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to know, delete, correct, and limit use of sensitive personal information. We don't sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA. To exercise any right, email us at hello@worthatry.co. We won't discriminate against you for it.
International data transfers
Your data is processed in the United States. If you're in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with data-export restrictions, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and (where applicable) the EU–US Data Privacy Framework to transfer your data lawfully.
7. Children
MoodSwings is built for adults and older teens. You need to be at least 13 years old to use it (or 16 years old if you live in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or any country whose law sets a higher minimum age for digital consent). If you're under that age, please come back when you're older. If we learn we've collected data from someone under the minimum age, we'll delete it.
8. Notifications
If you turn on notifications, we send messages about your cycle, your daily mood check-in, and your partner's updates. The text is generated on our servers and may include cycle context (for example, "Your period may start tomorrow"). You can turn notifications off any time in iOS Settings.
9. Subscriptions
MoodSwings has an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks the full App. Apple handles all billing — we never see your card details. RevenueCat receives an anonymous Apple identifier so we can confirm your subscription is active. Details (prices, trial lengths, how to cancel) are in our Terms of Use.
10. Law-enforcement requests
We only disclose your personal information to a government, court, or law-enforcement body when we're legally compelled to (for example, a valid warrant or subpoena from a court with jurisdiction over us). When the law allows, we'll notify you first. We'll resist overbroad or improper demands. We don't voluntarily provide reproductive-health data to any agency.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If a change is material, we'll let you know in the App and update the "Last updated" date at the top. Using the App after the effective date means you accept the revised policy.
